Grindelwald Terminal vs Grindelwald Bahnhof: Which Station Is Best for Your Stay?

If you are travelling to Grindelwald by train, you will notice two important railway stops: Grindelwald Terminal and Grindelwald Bahnhof. They are close to each other, but they serve different purposes — and choosing the right one can make your arrival and daily mountain trips much easier.

Grindelwald Terminal is particularly convenient for the Eiger Express, the Männlichen gondola and fast access to the ski and hiking areas, while Grindelwald Bahnhof sits in the village centre, close to restaurants, shops and connections towards First and Kleine Scheidegg.

Quick answer: If your priority is fast mountain access, choose Grindelwald Terminal. If you want to arrive directly in the village centre, choose Grindelwald Bahnhof. Guests at Chalet Amaryllis can comfortably use both.

Fast Mountain Access

Grindelwald Terminal

Grindelwald Terminal is a modern transport hub in the Grindelwald Grund area. Travellers arriving on the Bernese Oberland Railway from Interlaken Ost can get off here before the train continues to the main Grindelwald Bahnhof.

Its biggest advantage is direct access to two major mountain lifts. The Eiger Express reaches Eigergletscher in about 15 minutes, while the Grindelwald–Männlichen gondola goes directly to Männlichen.

The Terminal also includes shops, food options, ski storage, lockers, toilets and a large car park, making it much more than a simple railway stop.

Village Centre

Grindelwald Bahnhof

Grindelwald Bahnhof is the main railway station in the centre of the village. It is the better stop if your accommodation, restaurant or activity is around Dorfstrasse, the village centre or the Firstbahn area.

The Bahnhof is surrounded by shops, restaurants, cafés and hotels. It is also the end of the Bernese Oberland Railway from Interlaken and a key connection point for the Wengernalp Railway towards Kleine Scheidegg.

Compared with the Terminal, the atmosphere is busier and more central — ideal if village life is your main priority.
