Grindelwald is an excellent destination for families because children can do much more than just ski or hike. Depending on the season, you can choose from ski schools, ice skating, sledging, mountain playgrounds, climbing, biking, pony riding, golf, indoor activities and organised holiday camps.
Some activities take only one or two hours, while others allow parents to drop children off for half a day, a full day or even an entire week. In this guide, we divide the best family activities in Grindelwald and the wider Jungfrau Region by season and duration, so you can quickly find something that fits your plans.
We also highlight activities available in English, selected Polish-language options, and discounts available with the Grindelwald Guest Card.

Quick Activities & Half-Day Ideas
Looking for something that takes only a few hours? Grindelwald offers ski lessons, ice skating, climbing, pony activities, golf lessons, mountain playgrounds and other activities that fit easily into a half-day schedule.
Full-Day Activities & Camps
Parents who want more free time can choose from full-day ski schools, supervised sports programmes, pony days, multisport camps and seasonal holiday camps. Some programmes run for an entire week and allow children to participate without their parents.
Ski & Snowboard Schools
Grindelwald has several ski schools offering lessons for children from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. Swiss Ski School Grindelwald runs group lessons for children aged 3–15 and also offers childcare with lunch at the Bodmi Arena. Altitude Ski School is especially useful for international families because its children’s group lessons are run in English, with half-day and full-day options.
Other options include lessons around Männlichen and First, as well as private ski and snowboard lessons throughout the Jungfrau Region.
Ice Skating, Hockey & Snow Fun
Sportzentrum Grindelwald has an indoor ice rink with public skating and ice hockey sessions. Skates, helmets and hockey equipment can be rented on site, making it an easy activity even if you do not bring your own equipment.
Bodmi Arena is another good option for younger children, with a dedicated kids’ area, magic carpets, sledding and snow tubing alongside ski lessons.
With the Grindelwald Guest Card, entry to the indoor ice rink is currently reduced by 50%.
Mountain Adventures & Playgrounds
Grindelwald First is one of the most exciting summer areas for families. Younger children can enjoy the 700 m² Bort alpine playground, while older children and teenagers can try activities such as the First Flyer, Mountain Cart and Trottibike. The First Flyer reaches speeds of up to 84 km/h and has minimum weight requirements, so it is best suited to older children.
Männlichen is another excellent family destination, especially for younger children, with easy walking routes, playgrounds and themed family trails.
Golf Lessons & Family Golf
Golf Grindelwald is a relaxed 9-hole course where beginners are welcome and no official handicap is required during the week. Families can use the driving range, putting and practice areas, rent clubs and book private or group lessons with the local golf professional.
Intensive beginner courses are also offered during the summer, typically over four mornings with three hours of instruction per day. Children up to age 12 can currently play free when accompanied by a parent, while reduced junior rates apply for ages 13–17.
Pfingstegg, Hiking & Outdoor Fun
Pfingstegg is a great option for a shorter family outing. Children can combine the mountain cable car with the summer toboggan run and the Fly-Line, where riders glide through the forest at around 8–12 km/h. The Fly-Line is available for children from age 4.
Families can also choose from easy hikes, pony activities, cycling, golf lessons and other outdoor experiences around Grindelwald and the Jungfrau Region.
Skatepark, Pumptrack & Bike Skills
The new Challi Park at the Grindelwald Glacier Gorge is a free skatepark and pumptrack for children, teenagers and adults. It includes a concrete skatepark, bowl, beginner-friendly pumptrack and jump line. Bike and skate workshops are also organised during selected events
Tennis & Climbing
Tennis Club Grindelwald has four outdoor clay courts that can be booked by visitors from spring until autumn. The courts are open daily when weather conditions allow, and the club also runs junior tennis activities during the season.
For children interested in climbing, OUTDOOR Grindelwald offers supervised rock-climbing activities at the Glacier Gorge. Their youth and school programmes use small groups, include equipment and can be run in German or English. The Grindelwald Sportzentrum also has indoor bouldering and an indoor ropes park for bad-weather days.
